Pavillion and Landscape

Carnegie Mellon University | Pre-College Architecture | Design Studio | Summer 2019

Description

Elements, including the pavilion from part 4, specified by a fake client were arranged on a landscape using certain compositional themes. By impressing the golden rectangle on the site, terraces were created in alignment with the pavilion from part 4, a well and a pier. Raised terraces in alignment with the top of the pavilion immerse it in the landscape and create tight pathways leading to more open spaces, creating a sense of compression and release. Certain elements in the site allow the client to see different areas but deny them access without taking a longer route. This mirrors the opening on the floor of my pavilion which leads directly to the chair which is oriented in a way that denies the ability to sit right away. Additionally, the more private areas, such as the garden, allow for exploration and discovery of new areas throughout the site.
